2801 and HWIC-1GE-SFP

Is it possible to use a 2801 and the HWIC-1GE-SFP card? I know that the default configuration does not support the card, but is a memory driven restriction? If it can be used, what are the caveats? Do I have to bite the bullet and buy another router?

Thanks, Bob

Re: 2801 and HWIC-1GE-SFP

I have not tried putting one in the router but in general you will get a not supported message for anything that is not on the list of supported module. Sometimes its unclear why they do this... like a nm-4t will not work on a 2811 but you can use hwic-4t.

I suspect it related to the processing power of the router. A gig interface is a lot faster even a 2851 can pass traffic. If your only requirement is to run on fiber and you do not have a long distance run or require the wave division ability I would use the old 100tx-fx external converters on each end. It will be much cheaper than buying a new router.
