Hi all,

is a 2821 router with 1 GB memory suitable for BGP? We will be downloading full BGP tables.

Re: 2821 router

Hello,

Cisco typically recommends a minimum of 128MB spare memory to store the full BGP routing table.

Therefore, 1GB should be sufficient. Please note that the 128MB requirement is not platform specific and therefore may be a little bit off, however you've got a lot to play with.

Please see: http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/459/bgpfaq_5816.shtml#seventeen

for more information.

Hope this helps,

Michael

Re: 2821 router

If for Internet routing only, the 2821 is more than enough to support. In old days, we even use the 2500 or 4000 for Internet routing.

You also need to consider the bandwidth utilization and PPS requirement in the router.

Hope this helps.
