I have a couple of questions about the IOS on a Cat 3550.
1. How can you tell if the switch is running EMI or SMI? The partial sh ver output is below
Cisco Internetwork Operating System Software

2. In looking for the latest IOS, I found that the EMI IOS appears to have stopped at 12.2.22EA6. The newer versions appear to be labelled IP Base and IP Services. I've been looking for a document that explains what is happening but have drawn a blank.
TIA

1)You are running EMI. "i5q3l2" is EMI while "i9q3l2" is SMI.
2)Due to change in cross product naming convention, newer IOS has IP base and IP services feature set rather than SMI/EMI. IP Base corresponds to SMI while IP services corresponds to EMI. The release notes should help.

So the latest IOS Image for the 3550 is 12.2(25)SED ?
c3550-ipservicesk9-tar.122-25.SED
I thought this may have been the case with the IP Services vs EMI. However, when I went into Software Advisor and compared the IP Services features to the EMI Features in the version I am running, 12.1(22)EA4, the EMI version had many unique features.
Is this because it's 12.1 vs 12.2 ?

12.2(25)SED is the latest at this time. Software advisor doesnt work very well with Catalysts. I would say all features in 12.1 are in 12.2 and more.
