7206VXR: Creating a vlan

Hi,

I am trying to create a vlan on the 7206 but I get a "%invalid input detected" error.

I am using the command Router# vlan VLAN-ID.

BOOTLDR: 7200 Software (C7200-KBOOT-M), Version 12.1(14)E6

Thanks.

Re: 7206VXR: Creating a vlan

You never create vlans on true routers.

You connects to switches that have already the vlans using subinterfaces.

Also, you are reporting an incomplete IOS version string.

Re: 7206VXR: Creating a vlan

Here is the complete string. We are trying to see if we can have a vlan here due to the way the switch provided by our carrier is setup.

I am able to run "sho Vlans" (0 vlans are confgured).

Re: 7206VXR: Creating a vlan

As mentioned above, router never "creates" VLANs.

Try to explain what problem are you trying to solve exactly.

Hello Sudip,

>> Here is the complete string. We are trying to see if we can have a vlan here due to the way the switch provided by our carrier is setup.

as Paolo has explained this is a router and not a multilayer switch.

if your provider sends to you 802.1Q tagged frames with vlan X you just need

int f0/0

no ip address

int f0/0.10

enc dot1q X

! other commands here

X stands for a vlan-id number

Hope to help
