7206VXR NPE-400 Points

I currently have a 7206VXR with an NPE-400 installed.  I want to install a SA-VAM2+ so I can configure GETVPN.

Its currently configured as follows

Bus1:

PA-T3+

I/O-2FE/E

Bus2:

PA-GE

I would like to add the SA-VAM2+ to Bus2.  This would oversubscribe Bus2 by 400 points because the SA-VAM2+ card is 600 points.  Our router never sees more than around 90Mbps traffic or 45Mbps full-duplex currently.  So the SA-VAM2+ will never use 100% of its avaliable bandwidth even if we encrypted 100% of our traffic to/from the PA-T3+ with GETVPN.  In addition the PA-GE interface is used to redirect traffic to a WCCPv2 cache so it only sees that same 90Mbps (45Mbps in+45Mbps out) to/from the PA-T3+.  The I/O-2FE/E has both interfaces in use but only for redundancy and combined they only see a max of 90Mbps or 45Mbps full-duplex.

This is really just an intermediate solution until I can get an NPE-G1/NPE-G2.  Then I plan on moving the SA-VAM2+ card into the IO slot using a Port Adapter Jacket Card (C7200-JC-PA).  Then the points will not be a problem.

The question is other than the warning message would this load cause any issues?

Thanks.

Hello Yaplei,

verify that  SA-VAM2+  is supported by NPE-400, othe then this you should be fine

see

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/routers/7200/configuration/7200_port_adapter_config_guidelines/3875In.html#wp1085607

and

Hardware Requirements

Specific hardware prerequisites that ensure proper operation of the SA-VAM2+ follow:

The SA-VAM2+ is compatible with the NPE-225, NPE-400, NPE-G1 or NPE-G2 processor on the Cisco 7200VXR routers.

For  routers using SA-VAM2+, we recommend a minimum configuration of 256 MB  of memory; for more efficient performance, we recommend 512 MB of  memory.

The  SA-VAM2+ utilizes a specific number of bandwidth points in functioning,  which affect performance. For more information on bandwidth  requirements, see the http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/core/7206/port_adp/config/3471in.htm#xtocid20Cisco 7200 Series Port Adapter Hardware Configuration Guidelines

The SA-VAM2+ is supported by the NPE-400 and our NPE-400 has 512MB of ram.  The issue is that we

are using all the ports on our c7200-I/O-2FE/E and the PA-GE.  So the points will be oversubscribed.  Its just the total throughput will be quite low.  I expect it will work but wanted to get some input from someone who has more experiance with the 7200.

Thanks.
