7600-SIP-200 & SPA-8XCHT1/E1 install problems

Hello,

I am installing the below into a 7600 running the below IOS and it reports as "unknown" in the online diag status. The ports appear on the router, but will this work when a 2m circuit is connected??

4-subslot SPA Interface Processor-200  7600-SIP-200

Thanks

Re: 7600-SIP-200 & SPA-8XCHT1/E1 install problems

Phil, the SIP needs to be reset and then the test will be run. I was able to reproduce the behavior you saw. Even if you would have said yes to run the diagnostic the test wouldn't have run.

When I insert the SIP for the first time the card type isn't specified so the test is skipped:
*Jul  7 14:47:58.247: %OIR-SP-6-INSCARD: Card inserted in slot 1, interfaces are now online
*Jul  7 14:48:30.091: %DIAG-SP-6-RUN_MINIMUM: Module 1/0: Running Minimal Diagnostics...
*Jul  7 14:48:30.295: SP: No port type is configured; the test is skipped for slot:1 bay:0.
Router#show diagnostic result mod 1/0

Current bootup diagnostic level: minimal

        Module 1/0: 8xCHT1/E1 SPA     SerialNo : JAE1242XPCG  SerialNo : JAE1043E4TD

Overall Diagnostic Result for Module 1/0 : UNTESTED
Diagnostic level at card bootup: minimal

          Test results: (. = Pass, F = Fail, U = Untested)

            1) PortLoopbackTest:

              Port  1  2  3  4  5  6  7  8
              ----------------------------
                    U  U  U  U  U  U  U  U

Router#conf t
Enter configuration commands, one per line.  End with CNTL/Z.
Router(config)#card type e1 1 0
Router(config)#end
Router#
*Jul  7 14:49:49.839: %SYS-5-CONFIG_I: Configured from console by console
Router#

Here I try to force the test to run, but it still gets skipped and will only run at bootup:
Router#diagnostic start mod 1/0 test all
Diagnostic[Module 1/0]: Running test(s) 1 may disrupt normal system operation
Do you want to continue? [no]: y
Router#
*Jul  7 14:52:03.163: %DIAG-SP-6-TEST_RUNNING: Module 1/0: Running PortLoopbackTest{ID=1} ...
Router#
*Jul  7 14:52:03.175: SP: This test is valid only at bootup.
Router#
*Jul  7 14:52:03.175: %DIAG-SP-3-TEST_SKIPPED: Module 1/0: PortLoopbackTest{ID=1} is skipped

If we look at the show module output the SPA status is unknown as you saw:
Router#sh mod 1
Mod Ports Card Type                              Model              Serial No.
--- ----- -------------------------------------- ------------------ -----------
  1    0  4-subslot SPA Interface Processor-200  7600-SIP-200       JAE1043E4TD

Now if you reset the module the loopback test will be run:
Router#hw-module mod 1 reset
Proceed with reload of module?[confirm]

Re: 7600-SIP-200 & SPA-8XCHT1/E1 install problems

Phil,

Can you get the output from the following command for me:

show diagnostic result module 2/0

After that can you reload the SIP and see if you get a passing result?

Re: 7600-SIP-200 & SPA-8XCHT1/E1 install problems

Hello,

MRCW_R76_352#sh diagnostic result module 2/0

Current bootup diagnostic level: minimal

Module 2/0: 8xCHT1/E1 SPA     SerialNo : xxx SerialNo : xxx
D7Z4

Overall Diagnostic Result for Module 2/0 : UNTESTED
Diagnostic level at card bootup: minimal

          Test results: (. = Pass, F = Fail, U = Untested)

            1) PortLoopbackTest:

              Port  1  2  3  4  5  6  7  8
              ----------------------------
                    U  U  U  U  U  U  U  U

I guess this means the module has not been tested yet....

MRCW_R76_352#diagnostic start module 2/0 test all
Diagnostic[Module 2/0]: Running test(s) 1 may disrupt normal system operation
Do you want to continue? [no]:

I assume this command will cause impact to the router performance.

Thanks

Re: 7600-SIP-200 & SPA-8XCHT1/E1 install problems

Hi,

This specific SIP and SPA are Field Programmable Device which requires a special software Packages to be present in the flash. Pls check whether you downloaded the corresponding FPD for your IOS release and try this. I had this issue but after I did above everything was fine.

HTH...
