7606-S Boots to Rommon

I've been struggling to resolve a booting issue with our lab 7606-s with a single sup720-3bxl installed. This unit was configured and stayed powered down for severla months. A couple weeks ago I powered it up to do some development work and the router would only boot to Rommon. Here's the message I received:

System Bootstrap, Version 8.1(3)

Testing lower main memory - data equals address
Testing lower main memory - checkerboard
Testing lower main memory - inverse checkerboard

Clearing bss
Clearing autoboot state machine

Reading monitor variables from NVRAM
Reset reason 0xffff.
Enabling interrupts

Initializing main memory
Sizing NVRAM
Initializing PCMCIA controller
Exiting init
Cat6k-Sup720/SP processor with 1048576 Kbytes of main memory

Autoboot executing command: "boot "

Read cis from dev 1 error (-6)device does not contain a valid magic number
boot: cannot open "bootflash:"
boot: cannot determine first file name on device "bootflash:"

I was unable to view the contents of bootflash: in rommon, same magic number error. I inserted a formated card with an IOS image into the front Disk0: slot and was able to boot IOS off that. Within IOS cli I was able to view bootflash: directory and files and confirm my boot image was still present.

Now upon boot I cannot even get to rommon. Here's what the boot process currently looks like from power-on:

This "address error" repeats over and over again. I'm not sure if all of this is indicative of a hardware failure or if I'm overlooking a troubleshooting step.

Thanks

Have you tried booting up without the flashcard inserted? If you haven'y try it and see if you get into rommon. If you do, then put the flashcard back and boot off the card. Then once booted up try to format the bootflash and copy a IOS image to it.

Thanks for the suggestion. I neglected to mention that I have previously formated bootflash: and the sup-bootdisk: in an effort to resume normal auto boot.

I believe my problem was centered around rommon not being able to read bootflash:, but even after formatting that the problem persisted. What I'm most concerned about now is the *** Address Error (Load/Fetch) Exception ***

that scrolls and scrolls and I cannot get back to rommon.

Ehren,

This is probably a hardware issue. Check the link below:

This is what I was afraid of, but expecting. Thanks for your input.
