881W - update router or AP IOS first

I inherited an 881W and want to update to the latest IOS. The AP has the buggy 12.4 IOS. Should I upgrade the router or the AP first?

It doesn't matter, they are each independent of each other.

Do not use the 15.X IOS for the AP.  Stick with the 12.4.

I'm just curios why the 15.x is so frowned upon. Two different people on here have advised against it. I just downgraded from it back to 12.4 but I'd like to understand why. One thing I did notice is my speeds went from around 20mbps to 30mbps after the downgrade.

Because the developers s_crewed up the code.  15.X has more bugs than an rabid dog with fleas.

Stick to 12.4 until the codes get fixed.
