Apply policy-map to ATM VC

Hi All - please help before I am getting insane.

I have the following router

Cisco IOS Software, 3700 Software (C3745-SPSERVICESK9-M), Version 12.3(8)T10, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc2)

ROM: System Bootstrap, Version 12.3(6r) [cmong 6r], RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)

System image file is "flash:c3745-spservicesk9-mz.123-8.T10.bin"

Cisco 3745 (R7000) processor (revision 2.0) with 247808K/14336K bytes of memory.

Processor board ID FCZ10037332

R7000 CPU at 350MHz, Implementation 39, Rev 3.3, 256KB L2, 2048KB L3 Cache

2 FastEthernet interfaces

1 ATM interface

DRAM configuration is 64 bits wide with parity disabled.

151K bytes of NVRAM.

62720K bytes of ATA System CompactFlash (Read/Write)

with an NM-1A-E3 adapter.

I am trying to apply the following policy-map to the configuration

policy-map ph_xx_up34368k_lo10000k

class network_management

bandwidth 16

random-detect dscp-based

random-detect exponential-weighting-constant 1

random-detect dscp 16 200 300 10

random-detect dscp 48 100 200 10

class COS1

priority 1000 125000

police 1000000 conform-action set-dscp-transmit ef exceed-action drop

class COS2

bandwidth 5200

random-detect dscp-based

random-detect exponential-weighting-constant 1

random-detect dscp 26 200 300 10

random-detect dscp 28 100 200 10

class COS3

bandwidth 2500

random-detect dscp-based

random-detect exponential-weighting-constant 1

random-detect dscp 18 200 300 10

random-detect dscp 20 28 40 10

class COS4

bandwidth 900

random-detect dscp-based

random-detect exponential-weighting-constant 1

random-detect dscp 0 20 40 10

!

interface ATM1/0

mtu 1500

bandwidth 34000

no ip address

no ip proxy-arp

no ip mroute-cache

logging event subif-link-status

no atm auto-configuration

no atm ilmi-keepalive

!

interface ATM1/0.132 point-to-point

bandwidth 34000

pvc toper 1/132

service-policy output ph_xx_up34368k_lo10000k

!

but when I'll take an sh polcy-map interface, the map is not applied. Is anyone able to see the error?

Re: Apply policy-map to ATM VC

You may have omitted ip info on the sub-if. If not, I assume that it does not work because ip processing is not enabled on the interface.

You can verify this by running a "sh ip int ATM1/0.132"

Re: Apply policy-map to ATM VC

Hi,

While I have not come across this exact issue myself, I would suggest that you explicitly configure some traffic-shaping parameters under the PVC e.g.

interface ATM1/0.132 point-to-point

bandwidth 34000

pvc toper 1/132

vbr-nrt 34000 34000 1

Hope that helps - pls rate the post if it does.

Re: Apply policy-map to ATM VC

Yes - you are right - unfortunately I have been a bit to fast with my cut and paste - here you have the correct interface configuration:

interface ATM1/0

description description

mtu 1500

bandwidth 34000

no ip address

no ip proxy-arp

no ip mroute-cache

logging event subif-link-status

no atm auto-configuration

no atm ilmi-keepalive

!

interface ATM1/0.132 point-to-point

description

mtu 1500

bandwidth 34000

ip address x.x.x.x 255.255.255.252

no ip proxy-arp

rate-limit output access-group 182 5400000 675000 675000 conform-action set-dscp-transmit 26 exceed-action set-dscp-transmit 28

rate-limit output dscp 16 16000 4000 4000 conform-action transmit exceed-action transmit

rate-limit output dscp 48 16000 4000 4000 conform-action transmit exceed-action transmit

rate-limit output dscp 46 1000000 1250000 1250000 conform-action set-dscp-transmit 46 exceed-action drop

rate-limit output access-group 182 5000000 125000 125000 conform-action set-dscp-transmit 26 exceed-action set-dscp-transmit 28

rate-limit output access-group 183 2696000 337500 337500 conform-action set-dscp-transmit 18 exceed-action set-dscp-transmit 20

rate-limit output access-group 184 896000 112500 112500 conform-action set-dscp-transmit 0 exceed-action set-dscp-transmit 0

pvc toper 1/132

vbr-nrt 10000 10000 1

vc-hold-queue 1024

oam-pvc manage 0

oam retry 3 5 1

oam ais-rdi 10 3

encapsulation aal5snap

protocol ip inarp

!

and my problem is, that I am not able to apply he policy-map under "pvc toper 1/132".

I have tried to remove the rate commands - as far as I understand they are not feasible on e.g. 7300, but they should be allowed on the 3745.

Re: Apply policy-map to ATM VC

I found it myself - it was a bandwidth mis calculation. Easy to see - it was in clear text in the log.
