AS and IP Addresses

hi! just confuse abt one simple concept....we say that machines....are identifies on internet cuz they have global address....now if that is so why we use AS no's.....as Autonomou system are used to identity on internet a swell.....so didnt get the point??? why we use AS then...thanks in advance

Autonomous system numbers are used to share routing information with routers running the same ASN.

This typically used in your internal routing environment.

It is not used to initiate routing to external interfaces.
