Hi all, If I have a 2 meg e1 line that goes to my isp, can this be atm? or does it have to be a dedicated physical atm interface? are there physical atm interface types ?

Hello Carl,

it is a dedicated interface that is at E1 speed, for the need to segment packets into ATM cells for transmission and to reassembly the original packet when receiving (ATM SAR) ATM cells.

several ATM E1 links can be bundled with ATM IMA.

Then comes ATM E3 34 Mbps PDH (in Europe at least)

ATM STM-1 155 Mbps

ATM STM-4 622 Mbps

Hope to help

Giuseppe

so, does the e1 physical interface have to be an ATM type ? instead of a normal g703 e1 interface ?

Hello Carl,

yes indeed an ATM interface not a normal E1 even if the cabling can be the same g.703

Hope to help

Giuseppe

Actually the way ATM at 2mbps is done on the ISR routers, is with a "normal" VWIC, and the AIM-ATM module.
