Backing up a ethernet wan

any method to backup an ethernet wan interface with isdn

tried to find something like object tracking or rtr

any doccument pls help.....

there are a couple of different options for using ISDN as a backup link to a site if the WAN link fails.

floating static routes is one way and pretty easy to configure.

I believe if you are using dynamic routing protocol in the Ethernet WAN then floating static will be useful. However, if you are using static route for the primary connection then there will be a problem, due to the Ethernet may not down (next-hop still up) but the remote side down then the floating static will not work.

So, in your original question that the object tracking will be useful IF dynamic routing protocol is not used. Check below link for the object tracking that you can track the remote IP to ensure the connectivity is active.

Float static is not a solution as my primary link is RF which is terminated on ethernet.

The main problem is that router doesnt detect failure of primary when ethernet (RF) goes down..

So object tracking is an option to track ethernet interface but i m unable to find the doccuments on that.....

Not sure if you have seen this document or if you just have issues implememting it. It uses RTR to track the interfaces.

It does not use ISDN but you should be able to trigger the dialing based on intersting traffic.
