Backup interface connectivity trap

All,

I have scenario where one router is my primary router and other router is secondary router. Right now I dont have reachability to the IP address of backup router loopback IP address from primary router. I can configure the static routes at both the end and it will resolve that issue. But I have management station which will track the internet connectivity to primary as well as backup router. Backup router has DSL connectivity as follow: DSL service provider terminate their DSL line to Modem and modem is connected to the Backup router via ethernet connectivity. Now issue is if backup router dsl link goes down then my interface connected to router will remain up and I will not be notify for the internet link down if I will have trap configured for interface up/down event. so is there any other way to track the bkupdsl link?

thanks,

Devang Patel

Take a look at using IP SLA and EEM (Embedded Event Manager).

You can use IP SLA to track the connectivty from the backup router, generate a log message when on your device and send to sa syslog.

Or you can use EEM to check the logs for the up/down log message of your ATM/Dialer interface, then perfom some action (like shut down the link to your other router if that's what you want), or even send an email to you.
