Bandwidth Control

Hi,

I have a question in mind and its about bandwidth management. Its that say we have a 10mbps link from an ISP and we(enterprise) want to give 5mbps to Sales department, 3mbps to marketting dept and so on. Is it possible and if it is then is it done on the core router or the switch that connects the departments? what i think is that it can be done through QoS? but i might be wrong. If so then how cos i have never done this before.

I hope to get a positive response from you ppl.

Regards,

Ali

Ali,

This can be handled by QoS - there are a few ways to do this, I would consider policing/rate limiting.  Use your favorite search engine ans search for "qos policing" and or "qos rate limit"

Ideally you want to apply the QoS on the device that connects to the lowest BW circuit.
