Bandwidth Utilization Calculation

Hi,

Can some one tell me how to calculate BW utilization from the router with input and output rate.

GigabitEthernet0/0 is up, line protocol is up

Hardware is iGbE, address is 7081.050c.9e00 (bia 7081.050c.9e00)

  Description: *Gateway to VSNL-38Mb*

  Internet address is 10.70.10.202/30

  MTU 1500 bytes, BW 750000 Kbit/sec, DLY 100 usec,

     reliability 255/255, txload 10/255, rxload 1/255

  Encapsulation ARPA, loopback not set

  Keepalive set (10 sec)

Full Duplex, 100Mbps, media type is RJ45

output flow-control is unsupported, input flow-control is unsupported

ARP type: ARPA, ARP Timeout 04:00:00

Last input 00:00:00, output 00:00:00, output hang never

Last clearing of "show interface" counters 2w0d

Input queue: 0/75/0/0 (size/max/drops/flushes); Total output drops: 68599

  Queueing strategy: fifo

  Output queue: 0/2000 (size/max)

  30 second input rate 4784000 bits/sec, 2562 packets/sec

  30 second output rate 31248000 bits/sec, 3647 packets/sec

1676866172 packets input, 830513729 bytes, 0 no buffer

Received 148357 broadcasts (0 IP multicasts)

     0 runts, 0 giants, 0 throttles

     0 input errors, 0 CRC, 0 frame, 0 overrun, 0 ignored

     0 watchdog, 148309 multicast, 0 pause input

I see 4.7Mb inbound and 31Mb outbound. Is that what you're wanting to know?

Actually this ouptut is for one interface . On the whole taking both input and ouput how to calculate Bandwidth utilization.

Full Duplex, 100Mbps, media type is RJ45

30 second input rate 4784000 bits/sec (100 Mbps), 2562 packets/sec = 4.78%

30 second output rate 31248000 bits/sec (100 Mbps), 3647 packets/sec = 32.25%

or perhaps

Description: *Gateway to VSNL-38Mb*

30 second input rate 4784000 bits/sec (38 Mbps), 2562 packets/sec = 12.59%

30 second output rate 31248000 bits/sec (38 Mbps), 3647 packets/sec = 82.23%

Actually this ouptut is for one interface . On the whole taking both input and ouput how to calculate Bandwidth utilization.

Do you want to see the "realtime" utilization or you just want a snapshot?  Fluke's got some tools which can give you a history of your bandwidth utilization based on SNMP.

What is the model of your router and what is your bandwidth?  I can see you have some output drops which probably means the remote end of this interface is rejecting Tx packets from the router interface and to the next hop.
