Why is it like this that Available Bandwidth on serial port port of router is 48kilobits/seconds even though on running command sh controller serial shows received clockrate as 64K.

This means that service provider is providing clock of 64..

Why this difference is there ?

Here's a link that might apply (it's for ATM interfaces but the max-reserved-bandwidth bit applies to most interface types):

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk39/tk48/technologies_tech_note09186a00800fe2c1.shtml

Hi Aman,

That is the available bandwidth for the purpose of QoS reservation. By default, you can only reserve 75% of the bandwidth - and 75% of 64k gives you 48k.

However, that does not mean that the link operates at 48k. You will still get the full 64k from your serial link.

Hope that helps - pls rate the post if it does.

Sir,

Can I get any supporting document on Cisco for the same ?
