basic information regarding PPPOE

hi all,

Actually i thought of learning PPPOE, as its small topic in CCNP. i would like to know:

1.what exactly it is?

2.In which situation i can use it, and its advantages & disadvantages?

3.if you have leased line connection:

we generally use router with serial interface-v.35 cable--modem--4wire line from telco.

then how will be for PPPOE setup?

what are device we generally use.

1. see rfc 2516.

2. it's mainly used over adsl for authentication and accounting purposes, but in reality might work over any media.

3. Don't use PPPoE in this case. regular HDLCis fine.
