Best router for 4 BGP feeds

What router do you recommend for receiving 4 different gigabit ISP links?

Is there anything better than 6506-e?

Some people like the gsr, some people like the 6k better. Both will get the job done, you can make your mind talking with the ISPs themselves.

There's also the 76xx series. Almost identical to the 65xx series but hardware and latest software "favor" WAN vs. the 65xx series.

Does a 7600 outperform a 6k sup720 for BGP?

No. Currently the 6500 and 7600 have the same hardware for the Sup720's. You will eventually get the same performance on both the boexes.

but there is RSP720 which is only for 7600. 6500 and 7600 have gone different routes now, and they aren't that similar anymore.

I would expect about similar performance when using the similar hardware, e.g. sup32/sup720b in older non 76xx-S chassis vs. 65xx-E especially using software before the recent split.

There might be some performance difference between a sup720c vs. rsp720. I would expect it to be minor but don't know how the split in the software trains might come into play.

It's also possible, depending on what else you intend to have the router do, the 65xx might out perform a 76xx such as a sup32-PISA in the former vs. a sup32 in the latter (don't believe the -PISA is supported in some/any 76xx).

It would be best to get separate routers for each feed for maximum redundancy. If that is out of the budget, than at least 2 routers would be advisable.
