BGP Router Identifier

We recently changed an interface IP address, which was being used as router ID. What do we need to do to make the router ID use this new interface IP address?

Re: BGP Router Identifier

Mohamad,

You can reset the BGP process by going into configuration mode, typing a "no router bgp ", exiting the configuration mode and then typing config mem so that BGP config is re-applied. Note that this is obviously intrusive though.

Re: BGP Router Identifier

Hello Mohamad,

the BGP router-id is picked up when the BGP process starts.

copy the BGP router config to a notepad.

type

no router bgp xx

then copy paste the config a new BGP router-id is chosen

I recommend to use bgp router-id to be sure that BGP router-id will be the same over time.

Hope to help

Giuseppe

Re: BGP Router Identifier

Hi Giuseppe,

I don't want to use "bgp router-id" command. How can the router use the highest IP address of a new interface as default router-id?
