BGP's route tag

I can see tag information in a route learn from EBGP peer.Below information is an output from my test environment.

R2#sh ip route 192.168.30.0

Routing entry for 192.168.30.0/24

Known via "bgp 12", distance 20, metric 0

Tag 3, type external

Redistributing via ospf 1

Advertised by ospf 1 subnets

Last update from 192.168.23.3 00:01:35 ago

Routing Descriptor Blocks:

* 192.168.23.3, from 192.168.23.3, 00:01:35 ago

     Route metric is 0, traffic share count is 1

     AS Hops 1

     Route tag 3

But when I have learnt BGP message format, I cann't find tag field in any BGP message. In view of this how does BGP transit tag information?

Thanks a lot

Martin
