As we all know that Weight Attribute is an Cisco Specific however can you please clarify me that Weight is of which type of attribute.

Is this belongs to Well-known Manadatory/Discretionary or Optional Transitive/Non Trasitive??????

or Not Applicable...

Thanks and regards,

Re: BGP Weight Attribute

Since Weight is local to a Router and is not advertised to any peer thus it does not fall in any of the categories

Re: BGP Weight Attribute

Hello Sourabh,

actually weight is not a BGP attribute.

As noted by Zeeshan it is never exported in BGP updates so it cannot be classified in any BGP attribute category.

Local-preference is the BGP attribute that is more similar to weight and it is propagated within an AS.

if weight would be propagated within an AS it would be a duplicate of Local-Pref.

Hope to help

Giuseppe
