i've got one question related to the election of the designated querier on lan segments in igmpv2.
The BSCI Study Guide from cisco states that the router with the highest IP address on a lan segment is elected as the designated querier (P.604).
The RFC 2236 - Internet Group Management Protocol, Version 2 states something different: "All multicast routers start up as a Querier on each attached network. If a multicast router hears a Query message from a router with a lower IP address, it MUST become a Non-Querier on that network."
What will be the right answer in the 642-901 Exam? Is it the highest or the lowest IP address?
PS: I'm going for a second try on 642-901 on Friday.
In IGMPv2 lowest IP address becomes the designated querier
In IGMPv1, no selection process exists for the query router. The designated router (DR) is responsible for forwarding multicast traffic and also performs the query router function. This selection is similar to the DR selection in ospf and will elect the router with the highest ip address
