Can a T1/fractional T1 WIC be configured to work with a 56/64k circuit

I have a WIC 1DSU T1 and would like to channel it down to a 56/64k to work on a 56/64k circuit provided by the Telco. Can this be done?

Yes. Configure the timeslots options under interface, service-module.

Would that be:

sevice-module t1 timeslots 1 speed 64

Do you have to worry about the different pinning between a T1 and a 56/64k circuit?

ASAIK, 56K service are really no more. Just ask SP explicitly.

Note make sure to ascertain if circuit is T1 w/ 1 timeslot, or an old and tired 64 kbps circuit. The two things requires different hardware.

Hope this helps, please rate post if it does!

It sounds like you have a 56/64K DDS circuit. Your WIC 1DSU T1 will not work with this. You will need a "WIC-1DSU-56K4" card to work with this circuit. A DDS circuit uses pins 1,2,7,8 on the RJ45. A T1 circuit uses pins 1,2,4,5.

I ran into this recently at a customer site, where they do have active 56K DDS circuits. And while you can logically specify timeslots down to a single channel and set the speed to 56, the WIC 1DSU will not work on that circuit. You do need the 56K specific card.
