I want to phase out my cat6509 (sup1/mscf1/pfc) with suitable replacement. Currently i am using msfc feature extensively for vlan routing, eigrp, staitic routing ,policy based routing and CEF features. There are about 200 ports currently in use.

AS this is in production and i can not replace it in one time, i have started offloading connected hosts to newer 3750s switches.

I want to know if i get cat3750 with IP service IOS software, can i replace the whole cat6509 functionality ? Assuming that i will not able to avail all other capabilities of cat6509 (that currently i am not using) in future and i will have that many cat3750s stacks that requires to connect all.

A: Yes, you the 3750 can do all of the following:

vlan routing, eigrp, staitic routing ,policy based routing and CEF features with the EMI feature set or IP Services. With a 48 port 3750 you will need a stack of 5 switches to get the densitiy of 200+ ports.

one more thing, how about the load ? is the fabric on cat3750 will hold good? Currently i have about 25% average cpu utilisation and total 128mb mem - the mem utilisation as on now is -

The Cat6000 with sup1a or sup2 without SFM have 32 Gbps switching bus capability, the stackwise port on 3750 have 32 Gbps b/w. The 3650 also does int packet swithcing in hardware and it's normal for this switch to have cpu utilization between 25 - 35% or even a little bit higher. Remember the packets are hardware switched so most of the cpu are used processing control jobs. In Cat6K you would not see this kind of utilization but I think yuour 3750 should hold up with 200 users.

Yes, we can. With 3750s we can do most of the basic IP routing things that we do with other L3 switches

Thanks for the quick response. I am looking at cisco software download page, but there are no IP services IOS for cat3750 with GA version.. those are either ED or DF . Any idea, which could be select?

You can select any of ED versions. If there are any known bugs, the website will tell you so.

To get more information about versions, just click on ED or DF
