Catalyst 403 SP module Faulty

Dear All,

We got 2 catalyst 403 (4012-SP module)switches and both SP modules in faulty status but in the same time the switches working very well, i didn't find any doc to explane the reason behind such status so is there is anybody know the reason behind this status.

Re: Catalyst 403 SP module Faulty

the reason of the 'FAULTY' status on catalyst 4003 blades is that they have failed to initialize or once initialized they have failed altogether and should not be operational.

are you stating that the blades show as faulty but they are operating normally? if so, perhaps a reset of the modules and then verify their moduleInit logs or watch the console for any initialization errors. (or a reset of the switch, both of which should be done after hours to prevent user interuption)

Re: Catalyst 403 SP module Faulty

As shown below all testes passed but the module still in faulty status while it's working very very will without packet losses or any issues.

Re: Catalyst 403 SP module Faulty

i would start with the reset of the module and check the moduleInit logs with the 'show moduleinit' command.

perhaps a full powerDown and remove of the blade and assure all the pins/connectors are not bent/broken, etc. then reinsert the blade into the chassis and again, view the boot and moduleinit logs.

if still working just fine but showing 'faulty' then perhaps an upgrade of CATos from 5.5.1 to a higher rev. say 6.1 for example.

Re: Catalyst 403 SP module Faulty

Make sure all your power supplies are plugged in and the fan tray is working properly. These could cause a Supervisor to show as faulty as well. Also, paste an output of sh system from the switch.

Re: Catalyst 403 SP module Faulty

Yes, Yesterday the problem solved after replaced one of the power supplies.
