Cisco 2801 error on fa0/1 "Phy reset failed"

Hello,

just wondering if anyone has come across the error before?

The interface is connected to a Adva 150 (BT EAD NTE) which is not showing up according to BT who are looking at the NTE.

This error occurs when I ammend the speed/duplex of the Cisco router, but not come across this in the past.

Below is the config as seen on fa0/1:-

interface FastEthernet0/1
bandwidth 10240
no ip address
no ip redirects
speed 100
full-duplex

interface FastEthernet0/1.3034
description MONITORED-INTERFACE BT ETHXXXXXX

encapsulation dot1Q 3034
ip address x.x.x.x x.x.x.x

The IOS version running is 12.4 (25b).

Any advice or help on this would be much appreciated.

Kind regards

Steven

Also to answer your question on has it ever worked, I believe this is a new router from our supplier (BTinet).

Cheers

I would start replacing the cable. If still trouble, have ISP replace whatever is their equipment.

Then of course, it's also possible that the router is faulty.

Re: Cisco 2801 error on fa0/1 "Phy reset failed"

If I do a show controllers in fa0/1 the below looks odd:-

PHY registers:
Register 0x00:   FFFF  FFFF  FFFF  FFFF  FFFF  FFFF  FFFF  FFFF
Register 0x08:   FFFF  FFFF  FFFF  FFFF  FFFF  FFFF  FFFF  FFFF
Register 0x10:   FFFF  FFFF  FFFF  FFFF        FFFF  FFFF  FFFF
Register 0x18:   FFFF  FFFF  FFFF  FFFF  FFFF  FFFF  FFFF

I will continue with replacing the cable and liasing with the provider.

Going to also raise this with my supplier who sold me the router.

Kind Regards

Re: Cisco 2801 error on fa0/1 "Phy reset failed"

Hello,

Just to let you know it seems to be a faulty unit.

I have patched the cable into a 1801 and everything works fine (used same cable/same NTE).

We are now raising this with our supplier.

Thank you for your help.

Kind Regards
