Cisco 6500 Vs 7600

Hi,

we planned to migrate our wan edge router to one of 6504 or 7606 chassis model

but what happens its looks same were we can use SUP32 and SUP 720 on the both chassis but only difference is the chassis

in what way they are diffrenent

Performance or backplane throughput

Hello Vinoth,

if rack space is not a problem I would choice a 7606 chassis you may need to install additional linecards or a service module in the future.

It provides two more slots

performance and packet handling is depends on the SUP not based on the chassis

chassis is basically for support service modules

am i right

It's mostly a logical difference which dictates what IOS and/or line cards are supported per chassis series.

If you're going to be doing mostly "LAN" stuff, you'll want to use a 6500 but if you want to be doing mostly "WAN" stuff, you'll want to use a 7600.

Besides some sups, some line cards will work with both the 6500 and 7600.
