Cisco 7201 crash


The cisco 7201 using for terminate PPP sessions users.

Software version: Version 12.4(4)XD10, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc2)

Sometimes cisco crash. The number of users around the peak in 1300. pps around 20-30k

At each of the user interface has a rate-limit

1) the ouput error decoder provides the following answer

There are a lot of the following error messages

Dec 18 16:50:41.263 MSK: %SYS-2-INPUT_GETBUF: Bad getbuffer, bytes= 60128, for interface= GigabitEthernet0/1

1. %SYS-2-INPUT_GETBUF: Bad getbuffer, bytes= [dec], for interface= [chars]

The software requested a buffer that is larger than the largest configured buffer size, or it requested a negative-sized buffer.

Recommended Action: Copy the message exactly as it appears on the console or in the system log. Research and attempt to resolve the issue using the tools and utilities provided at With some messages, these tools and utilities will supply clarifying information. Search for resolved software issues using the Bug Toolkit at If you still require assistance, open a case with the Technical Assistance Center via the Internet at, or contact your Cisco technical support representative and provide the representative with the information that you have gathered.
