Hi All,
About 24 hours ago one of our routers that's been running for years suddenly dropped connection. We started to troubleshoot and so far haven't been able to rule out OSI Layer 1.
I've spoken to our ISP (Nildram/Opal) and they're still running tests, but each of the techmonkeys on the phone keep saying that "initial line tests show the line is good, I'll get our engineering team to run more tests." I'm still waiting...
On the router I've run:
sh int atm0 and I get ATM0 is down and down
sh dsl int atm0 and I get line has not yet been activated
sh int dialer0 and I get Dialer0 is up and spoofing
The Tx and Rx lights are going ballistic and CarrierDet LED is off.
I know no-one has changed anything on there as only I have access. I know our firmware is probably quite old, but I don't see why that would cause it to suddenly stop working.
Any ideas?
All the best,
Rich

Can't see an edit function, hence reply.
I meant to say that we've tried replacing both the filter and cable. No luck.

Try another ADSL modem or router.
For the intial posts, edit function is on the right side.

Thanks for the reply, we've had to strip a router off one of our other networks and are just reconfiguring. So you're best guess is that this is in fact a router issue and not the line?

I will not know until you try and report.
Any modem is good for a test, like the ones that ISP gives for free.
