I am trying to configur a cisco 857 router and experienced problems with the config of the interface fastethernet ip address.

Can someone please help-me?

"R2(config)#int fastether0

R2(config-if)#ip address 192.168.1.251 255.255.255.0

% IP addresses may not be configured on L2 links.

R2(config-if)#"

Thanks in advance

Pedro

Hi,

I suppose you connect your internal machine on fa0 then do this:

int vlan 1

ip add 192.168.1.251 255.255.255.0

Hi,

Because this is  a Layer 2 interface(switchport) not a Layer 3 interface and you can't assign an IP to a L2 interface.

Hi,

Good day,

I am trying to connect my c3650 layer 3 switch to the internet via cisco 891-k9 router, the problem is my vlans (2-12) on my layer 3 switch cannot pass through the internet. i have configured  one the LAN ports of my router to trunk mode and my layer 3 switch but still not working. but if i connect to the port on my layer 3 switch with no vlan assigned i have no problem connecting to the internet.

Pls. help.

Thanks,

Rolf
