I have 4- Catalyst 4500 switches and I need to know if there is a way that I can see the computer names that are connected to each port. I know that I can see the other Cisco devices, but I want to know if there is a way that I can pull the computer name from each computer....the guy that hooked things up before me just pluged things in where ever he could find an open slot....so there are cables all over the place...what I want to do is divde the floor up into areas and connect them to each switch that I setup for each area of the floor....

Please help

G'day,

I'm afraid there is no mechanism on the switch to be able to determine the names of PCs connected to it.

You can, however, see which ports other switches are connected to by using 'sh cdp neighbors'

You could try one more thing:

1. get the MAC address of the PCs connected to each switch port by using something like 'show cam dynamic'

2. go to each PC and co-relate its MAC with where you found the MAC on your switch.

Hope that helps - pls rate the post if it does.

Regards,

Paresh
