Thats what we thought, but we also noticed the LED for data wan't blinking on the card and he could not ping anything, not even the router. When He did an IPconfig, when set to DHCP he had the 169 IP, not the 172 IP that was assigned. He hardcoded an IP, no change. It is as though the transmit to him was bad.
He tried a few different cables, and then connected the machine to the switched network behind the router and got an IP from that network and was able to work. When he switched back with th eknown good cable, same thing as before. He has used this same laptop on the other switch with the same setup and it worked fine. It is pointing to the card as the problem. We tried all ports, no difference.
Do you have a Ethernet loop back cable? Or can you make one? Plug it in to the port in question you should get a link light. Also make sure that port is in spanning tree port fast. If you do sh diag does the router see the module?
This is actually a pretty cool feature, i didn't even know it existed until I was looking for a solution to advertise a subnet (prefix in BGP talk), only if a certain condition existed. This is exactly what conditional advertisements does
