Configure 2620 for Local T-1 Facility.

We recently moved our network to a new building and our new provider furnished us with an Adtran 608 router (no customer access). I would like to replace this unit with the 2620 from our old network so we can administer the router locally.

Can someone provide step-by-step instructions for the setup of the 2620. It has one FastEthernet interface and one Serial interface. Our office has a T-1 with 64 public IP addresses (Subnet The loopback device is currently connected to the Adtran router and our network is up and running.

I have the WAN IP address information and our IP address information and know how to get to the initial setup screen of the 2620 using Hyperterminal. Our provider gave us the green light on replacing the router.

Can some give me step-by-step instructions from here.....

rommon 1> confreg 0x2142

rommon 2> reset

would you like to enter the initial configuration dialog? YES

I contacted my provider and they said they will provide any parameters that are needed but they can't walk me though the setup of the router.

Here's what I've got (on my own) so far.......(can't ping outside addresses)

Router#show running-config

Any help will surely be appreciated!!

Re: Configure 2620 for Local T-1 Facility.

Hi Greg

do add a default route pointing via your serial interface that should do the trick.

ip route serial 0/0

if you are still unable to get the icmp reply do check out with your SP for the possible reverse route in their router pointing towards your link for your local network.

Also you can do few diag tests before getting in touch with your SP..

do check the connectivity between you and your SP by pinging ??.??.166.169 which mite be configure there @ your SP end.

Also check the interface status using show ip interface brief.

All your interface status should be up/up especially your serial interface connecting to your SP.

Re: Configure 2620 for Local T-1 Facility.

Thanks! I've added the IP Route per your instructions. The serial interface comes up at boot and then goes down after several seconds??

Re: Configure 2620 for Local T-1 Facility.

Have you connected the link from your SP on your router on the serial interface ?

If so then do check up the loop from your telco to make sure that you have a clean pipe available at your end so that you can use for connectivity..
