Configure Magic Number(Multilink Protocol over PPPoE) in Cisco 7206

Hey Guys,

Please refer RFC 1990(MP).

Can anyone let me know whether configuration of Magic-Number, Short Sequence Number header, End Point Discriminator are supported on Cisco 7206?

If yes, I would really like to know the configuration details of each.

Hi Abhie,

The Cisco IOS does not allow the configuration of the Magic Number. It also does not support the Short Sequence Number header.

However, it does support the configuration of the endpoint discriminator. You can use the following command to accomplish this:

ppp multilink endpoint {hostname | ip ip-address | mac lan-interface | none |

phone telephone-number | string char-string}

The options above correspond to the options in section 5.1.3 of RFC1990.

By default, PPP uses the same string for the endpoint discriminator that it would provide for authentication to negotiate use of MLP with the peer. If authentication is not configured, it will use the hostname.
