configure VPN&IPS on Cisco 1802

Hi,

I have a Cisco 1802 to connect my company to ADSL over ISDN. But my boss wants to change the ISP. The propose was (still is) to configure de router with VPN, IPS and use the WAN port to connect the new ISP, that provides an Ethernet signal to 100Mbps.

The WAN port will work with Ethernet signal (when we change of ISP)?

Anyone can show me a good book (or a paper) to configure the router to work properly with VPN and IPS?

Thank you,

Beste Redargs,

António

Re: configure VPN&IPS on Cisco 1802

It appears you have a 10/100 FE WAN port for that model.  However, will the router support 100Mbps throughput?

IPSec and VPN

Integrated Hardware-Based Encryption

On motherboard

Encryption Support in Hardware

DES, 3DES, AES 128, AES 192, AES 256

IPSec Tunnels Supported

50

IPSec VPN Performance

40 Mbps 3DES @ 1400 byte packets

Cisco IOS Firewall Performance

100 Mbps @ 1400 byte packets

It appears you'll only obtain 40Mbps through of encrypted traffic.  As for configuration of VPN and firewall for 1802:

Firewall: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/routers/access/1800/1801/software/configuration/guide/firewall.html
VPN: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/routers/access/1800/1801/software/configuration/guide/vpnezvpn.html

HTH!
