Console port speed "can't change" on 7204

Shannon Sutter

I'm trying to copy a new IOS from a laptop to the router via console port using hyperterminal.

I'm trying to change the console port speed and the 7204 does not like it.

This is what i am getting...

WWWRouter(config)#

WWWRouter(config)#line con 0

WWWRouter(config-line)#speed 115200

Failed to change line 0's speed

WWWRouter(config-line)#

Can you guys tell me why i can;t change the speed?

Thank you,

Zeek

Hello Zeek,

it is probably an older npe.

your config should be:

ip routing

int f0/0

ip address 10.10.10.1 255.255.255.0

no shut

you give 10.10.10.2 255.255.255.0 to your PC

you activate tftp server

from router

with dir /all verify if you have space on flash

verify you can ping the PC you need a cross-over cable or put both on two ports of a switch.

copy tftp flash

it will ask you all the parameters one per line

Hope to help

Giuseppe

Hello Zeek,

configure a LAN interface and use TFTP that is faster.

if it is an NPE-G1 or NPE-G2 you can use the built-in GE ports

just remember to put

media-type rj45 under GE config

so that you can connect to a switch or directly with a crossover cable and a laptop

with TFTP server running

Hope to help

I can see only 1 available fast ethernet port.

do you mind sending me a simple config for it, please?
