I just bought a new Cisco 871 router and after a lightning strike, i discovered that the router is booting to the rommon prompt and displaying the error message "Cookie information is corrupt" when i issued the command "cookie" it gave me the values below:
rommon 17 > cookie
WARNING: Cookie information is corrupt

On issuing the same command on a working Cisco 871 router i got the values below:
cookie
04 ff c3 06 00 1a e3 b2 6f 71 43 00 0b c1 8b 46
4f 43 31 31 30 39 31 39 4b 54 40 04 b2 41 02 00
82 4a 0d aa 03 42 41 30 c0 46 03 20 00 68 9d 04
88 00 00 00 00 02 02 c6 8a 43 4f 4d 34 47 31 30
42 52 41 03 00 81 00 00 00 00 04 00 cb 94 43 49
53 43 4f 38 37 31 57 2d 47 2d 45 2d 4b 39 20 20
20 20 89 56 30 33 20 d9 02 40 c1 09 94 c2 8b 46
43 5a 31 31 31 33 34 30 51 58 4a 00 01 ff ff ff
What command do i need to use in order to reset the cookie configuration in the EEPROM to normal values so that the router can boot up? All attempt made to reload the flash using disaster recovery procedures proved abortive.
Thank you.

Thanks for your help. I tried it out, but it is not taking the COOKIE command, i guess the command might be different for the 871 router. please can you guide me further on the configuration.
Thanks
Gabriel

Sorry, I have no information on what the right command for the 871 could be.

Dear Gabriel,
As you have already pasted the o/p of command COOKIE, you should now execute PRIV command in the rommon mode then enter '0000'as the password, (after some ENTERs) execute COOKIE command & then enter the values taken from any other 871 router. But enter these values carefully b/c incase of entering wrong information password(required after PRIV cmd) would change which a Cisco TAC guy can sort out.

Akhtar
