i get this error when booting a cisco 5300 router "device does
not contain a valid
magic number"
what can be the problem and how do i resolve it?

This issue is mainly caused by a corrupted file system on the device from which the CPU tries to load the software image.
Try to manually boot the image, also check if the size of the image in this device is the same as the image size downloaded from the TFTP server.
If none of the above work, try to upload the image again.

The file allocation table has a problem on the device that you are booting from. Only method I have found is to format/erase the device and copy the IOS back to the device via TFTP or FTP.
