Advantages:
lack of administrative overhead and less errors.
dynamic provisioning of IPs with short leases for machines which are not connected on the network for long periods
Roaming for wireless devices
dynamic turnover of short finite pool of IPs when there is more hosts than IPs
Disadvantages:
any machine connected to the network can receive an IP
Could be subject to DoS attack and rogue DHCP service for MiTM attacks
Discovers and offers are broadcasts( but offers can be unicast also)
