Dial from Ethernet

Hi Everbody,

Is there any way or configuration is there to dial a telephone number from Ethernet Interface of the router.

I have a CDMA phone having RS232 Interface, connnected to RS232 to Ethernet convertor, and in turn connected to 1841 Router ethernet fa0/0 Interface.

I am trying to dial a number from the router. Iam aware that if i have a serial interface i can do that. But from ethernet interface how it has to be done

thanks in advance

Re: Dial from Ethernet

Refer to your "ethernet to rs232" converter documentation for how to use it.

All the other devices do not matter at all.

Re: Dial from Ethernet

Hi

It is just a converter. No configuration is possible in that device.

I am trying to configure dialer in the ethernet interface. Is that possible?

Re: Dial from Ethernet

What you call a converter is possibly a bridge.

You cannot "dial from ethernet".

Re: Dial from Ethernet

No. Sorry, it seems like you have no basic understanding of networking and how these devices work.

Re: Dial from Ethernet

Hello R.B. Kumar,

having a converter is not enough:

to interface to a phone network also called PSTN you need a setup that emulates OSI layer 1, 2, and 3.

For example an ISDN interface used for voice supports:

the standards for the BRI or PRI interface

the Q.921 that describes the L2 level

the Q.931 used on the signalling channel: it is this component that makes the difference.

so the converter you have is good only for data services but it misses all the signalling components needed to interface to PSTN

Hope to help

Giuseppe
