Differece B/T Giga bit and FE Cross and Stright Cable. ???

Hi

Is there any pin configuration difference between gigabit and simple Fe cable (strigth and cross)

I am asking it about the pin configurations.

Short answer no.

Long answer FE and GE use the same pysical media, the exception being the 1000base-SX or LX which use fiber.

For 1000Base-T I have never seen a GE port that didn't automtatically work out if it needed a streight or crossover connection, so in every case I have seen, a streight cable will work, as will a crossover.

Straight (only pins 1,2,3,6 are used)

2-2

5-5

6-6

7-7

8-8

Cross (only pins 1,2,3, and 6 are used)

1-3

2-6

4-4

5-5

7-7

8-8

The pinouts for 1000MB are:

Straight (all eight pins are used)

1-1

2-2

3-3

4-4

5-5

6-6

7-7

8-8

Cross (all eight pins are used)

1-3

2-6

4-7

5-8
