difference between switch fabric spped and backplane speed

what is the difference between switch fabric and backplane speed?

Now defining these

Backplane speed is the speed at with data is proceesed and send out..

while Switch fabric is the combination of hardware and software that moves data coming in to a network node out by the correct port (door) to the next node in the network.

Switch fabric provides a backplane to the switch..

If u say about 6500,it has got two backplanes

1.shared bandwidth of 32Gbps

2.A bandwidth with allow access to the switch fabric.eg,SUP 720 gives 2X20 Gpbs bandwidth to acccess its inbuild swithcing matrix..

Switching fabric is provided by either an Switch fabric module(SFM),which gives a crossbar switching matrix(or backplane)of 256 Gbps ,that allow simultaniously sending packet across the modules.Now SUP720 has got inbuild cross switching matrix ,hence not require an additional SFM.

A switching fabric is the combination of hardware and software that moves data coming in to a network node out by the correct port (door) to the next node in the network. A switching fabric includes the switching units in a node, the integrated circuits that they contain, and the programming that allows switching paths to be controlled. The switching fabric is independent of the bus technology and infrastructure used to move data between nodes and also separate from the router.

Switch backplane speed is generally referred to as the aggregate bandwidth available for switching across the chassis.
