I find a confused issue when I test how RIPng is working. A very simple topology like that:
R1----R2--NetX
When I use rip version 2, metric for NetX in R1's routing table is 1. When I use RIPng, metric for NetX in R1's routing table is 2.
Why R1 has the different metric? Why the metric(hop) is 2 in RIPng test when only one router(R2) is on the path.
Thanks a lot
Martin

Hi,
RIPng metrics are incremented inbound before being added to the routing table/RIP database, while RIPv1 and RIPv2 metrics are incremented outbound that is the cause of this discrepancy between the 2 protocols.
Regards.
