Does VWIC-1MFT-E1 supported G703?

I have a VWIC-1MFT-E1 inserted into a 2650xm router. My telco has told me the line is G703. I would like to know if the VWIC-1MFT-E1 supported G703. Or do I need to buy VWIC-1MFT-G703?

Pls advise soonest and thanks.

Re: Does VWIC-1MFT-E1 supported G703?

Hi

That's like asking if IEEE 802.3 is the same as Ethernet. The first term is very

specific and technical, the second is a general umbrella category. Like 802.3,

CCITT/ITU Recommendation G.703 is a specific standard covering physical and

electrical characteristics of a digital interface. In the case of G.703, it presents a

standard method for encoding clock and data into a single signal. The principles

in G.703 are applicable to interfaces with data rates ranging from 64 kbps to

2.048 Mbps.

Moral of the story : E1 card will work for G.703.

Hope it helps.

Re: Does VWIC-1MFT-E1 supported G703?

Thanks for the prompt reply. In this case, can advise why Cisco has two VWIC for the 2600XM router:

VWIC-1MFT-E1

VWIC-1MFT-G703

What the difference in them. Shouldn't VWIC-1MFT-G703 be used for G703 telco line.

So, you are saying that VWIC-1MFT-E1 also can be used for G703 telco line.

Thanks

Re: Does VWIC-1MFT-E1 supported G703?

Hi

(1)E1 line uses 16th timeslot for signaling, which is not in the case for G.703

(2)There are different switches installed at the Telco side,so its always difficult to say.

(3)I am able to use a E1 card on G.703 line using following config.

"channel-group 0 timeslots 1-31 speed 64

framing no-crc4

linecode HDB3

clock source line"

Re: Does VWIC-1MFT-E1 supported G703?

hi Desai,

Can confirmed that you are using second generation VWIC2-1MFT-E1? My understanding is that G703 is only a leased line technology. If you are using the standard/first generation VWIC-1MFT-E1, you cannot use this with G703 2Mbps leased line. For the second generation VWIC2-1MFT-E1, you lumped 1 to 31 timeslots into one channel, you achieve only 1984Kbps and loose 64Kbps to framing.

Re: Does VWIC-1MFT-E1 supported G703?

Hi

I have worked only on 1st generation cards, cant say about 2nd generation.

Can you confirm with your telco that the circuit of yours is 2Mbps unframed or its a framed circuit?

JD
