driving RS-232 devices from WAN

Hi. I need some help to understand how to connect and manage RS-232 device from a WAN connection. In the past, I used a Cisco 2511 (or 2509) with the device I need to manage connected to one of the 16 (or 8) RS-232 ports, and the router itself connected to a LAN that I can reach via Internet.

Cisco 2511 (and 2509) are no more available so I'm looking for a new way to do the same thing. I've already build a scenario; I just need to know if it's feasible. Because I've only one RS-232 device on every site to manage, if I connect it to the AUX port of a generic Cisco ADSL router connected to Internet (17xx for example), could I manage the RS-232 device from an Internet connected PC? To clarify, for "manage" a RS-232 device I mean read and write characters. Thanks for any help.

Hi, yes, either you use the aux port, an asynchronous multi-port card or anything else, it will work the same as it used to be with the 2511.

Hope this helps, please rate post if it does!
