Dual ISP - Set backup route using PPPOE

Hi

I have 2 ISP links. The main one is configured and I am now configuring out backup link on the ASA.

I am following Document 70559 Redundant or Backup ISP links and am at the stage where I set my second stack route have an admin distance greater than the orginal route that the primary link uses.

This second link uses PPPOE and I'm not quite sure what I fill in for the route here.

The main example has

route backup 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 10.250.250.1 (backup route) 254

I'm not sure what I use in place of the 10.250.250.1 as I am using PPPOE.

Any suggestions?

Thanks a mil

You would use your provider's gateway that they provided you. Have you configured the pppoe connection yet? Does it have a link?

Let's say that the provider assigned you 2 addresses (5.5.5.1 and 5.5.5.2) 5.5.5.1 is your default gateway on their end. Then you'd put in

ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 5.5.5.1 254

The main 0 0 route is always used unless it's down (because a static route has a default AD of 1).
