Dynamic Routing Failover Question?

Hello,

We have an office that is about to move to a primary Layer 2 connection to our Data Center with a backup link to the internet for redundancy.  We were thinking of setting up an OSPF instance at the switches and Juniper SRX firewall at our Data Center to provide failover, but we have a static return route set up for the network traffic back to the SRX in the Data Center which will interfere with this plan.

We ran into issues cutting over to our SRX at the Data Center so we can't remove that static route.  Is there a way around this that anyone here on the forum can suggest?  Is there a way to set up a GRE tunnel between ths switches that might provide us with the dynamic failover we need to set up?

Any suggestions for how to address this would be great.

Hi Victoria,

What you can do is to set up a GREoIPsec on the internet and you can run OSPF across the  tunnel. You can also run GRE on the primary link and adjust the costs on the tunnel to achieve the primary/back up scenario.

You can set 2 static routes using both exists and modify the AD on backup static route then redistribute them into OSPF

Eugen,

When you use static routes, you will also have to use IP SLA's as well. However, if you use dynamic routing protocols you dont need the IP SLA's

You are right about IP SLA, but Victoria mentioned that she will have OSPF running.
