Hi
Both T1 & E1 are supposed to carry both voice and data traffic.
Also it depends based on the geographical location where u live.
E1 offers 2048Kbps in comparison to T1 which offers 1544Kbps.
Also when u use E1 for voice only then u can have 32 channels ,30 of them catering channels for voice and 2 of them for signalling.
But in case of T1 it offers 24 channels for the voice..
Line impedance also differs on both the lines too..
AFAIK Its all about T1 in North America & Japan and E1 in most of the other locations..

Hi,
T1 means "Trunk 1". E1 is the European equivalent.
Have a look at

Hope this helps

If u like to know meaning or where it is named,
http://www.artesyncp.com/resources/glossary/e1-t1.html
or if u want to know what is E1/T1,
In North American T1 PRI lines, 23 "Bearer" (B-channels) are available for voice or data traffic. Each B-channel operates at a 64 KBPS rate. There is an additional 64 KBPS channel that is used for call supervision, called the "Delta" channel (D-channel). The D-Channel is usually transported over DS0 #24.
In International E1 PRI lines, 30 "Bearer" (B-channels) are available for use. Again, each B-channel operates at 64 KBPS. A single D-Channel operates at 64 KBPS and is used for call supervision. The D-Channel is usually transported over DS0 #16.
