E3 link shutdown on errors

Hi,

We have an application that is sensitive to errors on an E3 WAN link. It can cope if the link fails cleanly but runs very slow and eventually locks up if the E3 link is erroring.

Is there any configs that can be applied to shut the E3 link down cleanly when it errors and that restores it when the errors clear.

We are using HDLC encapsulation. 7507 Routers, Running EIGRP, PA-E3Serial Port Adapter with E3 DSU,

TIA

Mark

Hi,

first of all, even a moderate and occasional error ratio is not acceptable from an expensive circuit like E3, and should be reported as faulty until fixed. However, I think you are already aware of that.

This said, as workaround, you can use the embedded event manager to monitor the error count and shutdown the interface on reaching a threshold.

Unfortunately, EEM is not the easiest thing to configure, and the more advanced form (that should not be required in your case) have been introduced only in recent IOS.

You can start with the documentation:

Hope this helps, please rate post if it does!
