eBGP default 0.0.0.0 redistribution into OSPF

I know about def-info orig [always].

And aware too of stub/t-stubby/nssa rules.

My question is why does ospf deny the redistribution of external 0.0.0.0 into itself?

r1---ebgp---r2---ospf---r3

r2 has a 0.0.0.0 route present in it's rt learned via ebgp (20). r2 then attemtps to redist all bgp routes into ospf. it manages to accomplish this except the default.

Is there any workaround other than those listed at the top of this posting. I want to use the redistribution of bgp learnt 0.0.0.0 into ospf.

Re: eBGP default 0.0.0.0 redistribution into OSPF

Hi Ajaz,

EIGRP is the only routing protocol that doesn't utilize the default-information originate command , to advertise default information just do the redistribution.

Re: eBGP default 0.0.0.0 redistribution into OSPF

Ajaz,

The only way to inject the default route in OSPF is, as you mentioned, through the "default-information originate" command. Redistribution of the default from another source is explicitly prevented by IOS.
